உதவி வரைத்து அன்று, உதவி; உதவி செயப்பட்டார் சால்பின் வரைத்து.

பொழிப்புரை :

அளவால் அறியப்படுவது அன்று, உதவி; [அது] உதவி செய்யப்பட்டவரின் சிறப்பின் அளவைப் பொறுத்தது.

விரிவுரை :

உதவி அதன் அளவால் அறியப்படுவதில்லை. அது உதவி பெறப்பட்டவர் சிறப்பின், மேன்மையின் அளவால் அறியப்படும். உதவி பெறுபவரின் சிறப்பே செய்யப்பட்ட உதவியின் அளவைத் தீர்மானிப்பது. எனவே ஒரே உதவி அதன் பெறுபவரின் தன்மைக்கேற்ப சிறப்பில் வேறுபடும். பெருந்தகையாளருக்குச் செய்த உதவி பெருமிதத்தையும், சிறுமையாளருக்குச் செய்த உதவி சிறுமையும் பெறும் என்பது கூறாப் பொருள். பெறுநரின் மேன்மை என்பது அவரது சான்றாண்மைக் குணத்தின் மேன்மை பற்றியது; அவரது பொருள் வளத்தால் அல்ல என்பதை அறியவும். நல்லவருக்குச் செய்த உபகாரம் கல்லின் மேல் எழுத்தே போல் நின்று பறை சாற்றும்.

குறிப்புரை :

உதவியின் பெருமை அளவு அதைச் சேர்பவரின் மேன்மையால் அறியப்படும்.

uthavi varaiththu anRu, uthavi; uthavi seyappattAr sAlbin varaiththu.

Meaning :

Help is not known by its own measure. It depends by the recipient’s loftiness measure.

Explanation :

Help does not prescribe measure by its own size; it is measured by the receiver's merit and loftiness. Help recipient's loftiness determines the measure for the help rendered. Therefore the same help depending upon it's receiver's merit differs in its greatness. The help rendered for the noble get nobility and the help offered for the petty minded becomes insignificant is the implied meaning here. Loftiness of the recipient is about their greatness in quality; not about their greatness in wealth of material goods and money. The help rendered for the good will stay and speak for it as if scripted in a stone.

Measure of Help's renown is known by it's recipient's majesty.
