தீயவை செய்தார் கெடுதல் நிழல் தன்னை வீயாது அடி உறைந்தற்று.

பொழிப்புரை :

தீயவை செய்தாருக்கான கெடுதல், தன் காலடிக் கீழ் மறையாது தங்கித் தொடரும் நிழலைப் போன்றது.

விரிவுரை :

தீயவற்றைச் செய்தவருக்கான கெடுதல் என்பது அவர்தம் காலடியின் கீழ் அழியாது தொடரும் நிழலைப் போன்றது. ஒளியிருக்கும் வரையில் நிழலும் தோன்றும். அதைப் போன்றே வாழ்வு இருக்கும் வரையிலும் செய்த தீவினைப் பாவம் அழியாதே தொடர்ந்து வருமாம். மனிதருக்கு வாழ்க்கை முழுவதும் காசில்லாமல் இயற்கையாகவே இலவசமாகக் கூடவே வருவது நிழலும், கவலையும் தான். அவை சில நேரங்களில் மறைந்தாலும் மீண்டும் ஒளியில் இருளாகத் தோன்றத்தானே செய்கின்றன. உன்னை விட்டுப் போகமாட்டேன் எனக் காலுக்கடியில் அடம்பிடித்துச் சுற்றிக் கொண்டு நிற்கும் நிழலைப் போல, கர்மா எனும் பாவ வினைகள் வாழ்வைச் சுற்றிக் கொண்டு வெளிச்சம் பெறும் போதெல்லாம் கூடவே அவ்வப்போது இருளாய் வெளிப்பட்டு இடராய், நினைவாய், எதிர் வினையாற்றும் துயராய்த் துன்பமாய் தோன்றி நிற்கும். இவை ஒருவர் மரிக்கின்ற வரையிலும் பூரணமாய் ஒரு போதும் மறைவதே இல்லை. ஆதலின் ஒருவர் தீவினையைச் செய்யாதே ஒழுகி நடந்தால் இவ்விதமான தொடர் இடர் வாராது என்பது இக்குறளின் மறை பொருள். முன் செய்த வினைகள் நம்மைத் தொடருவதை நாம் ஒன்றும் செய்ய இயலாது. ஏனென்றால் அவை ஏற்கனவே செய்துவிட்ட நிகழ்ந்து முடிந்த, இனித் திருத்த முடியாத நிகழ்வுகள். ஆனால் நடக்கும் நிகழ்வுகளை நாம் சரிவரச் செய்யலாமே. எனவே பிற்பாடு பாதகம் தாரா வகையில் தீவினைகளை அகற்றி நல்ல வினைகளை மேற் கொண்டு வாழுதலே அறிவுடைமை. எனவே எப்போதும் நல்லவற்றையே எண்ணுவோம்; நல்லவற்றையே செய்வோமாக.

குறிப்புரை :

தீவினையால் வரும் கெடுதல் என்பது அடங்காது வரும் அவர் தம் நிழலைப் போன்றே ஒருவரை எப்போதும் தொடர்ந்து பற்றி நிற்கும்.

Meaning :

The evil for the sinners is like their own shadow resting at their foot, stays and continues for ever.

Explanation :

The evil and affliction for those who have committed evil deeds is like their own shadow dwelling at their own foot, never leaves but persists forever. The shadow will appear as long as the light lasts. Same way as long as the life lasts for one the sin of one's evil deed endures upon. For the human beings that which continues them forever free of cost by the nature is their own shadows and worries. Though they disappear now and then always they continue to appear as dark in their day of lights. It is like the shadow which compulsorily persists coiling at their foot without leaving, the sins and evil of their committed evil deeds coil their life and show up and stay in their bright days as interruption, thought, affliction, pain or suffering. This continues throughout their life forever and never disappears completely. One will not get such interruptions in life only if they have not committed any evil deed prior is the implied meaning here in this Kural. We cannot do anything in this life for the prior sins following and bogging us. It is because they are already committed deeds and events and cannot be altered ever again. However we have the option to do our current deeds and events properly. Is it not? Therefore we must act such that no aftermaths affect us, hence to live by avoiding the evil deeds and performing only the good deeds are the true wisdom in life. Therefore let us always think only the good and do only the good.

Message :

The evil which comes for one for the evil deeds made is like one's shadow persists at one's own foot, remains and continues perpetually.
